Saurabh Deoras > "Bean Hollow Tidepool"
Location: Bean Hollow State Beach, San Mateo County, California.

Bean Hollow state beach has such interesting rock formations that can keep a landscape photographer busy for months. I have a few spots that I frequently visit on this beach and fine tune my images by shooting over and over at those spots. One such spot is this tidepool where, in particular, I like the central rock.

This was shot during sunset when the last rays of the light directly illuminated the rocks. Shooting at sunrise could be tricky but I may just give that a try as well... will see how that goes later.

Saurabh Deoras > "Shores of Garrapata"
Location: Garrapata State Park, Monterey-Carmel Area, California.

These iconic sea stacks of Garrapata are all that remains of an ancient shoreline that once stood here. Over time they will also be claimed by the sea but for now they stand strong.

Saurabh Deoras > "Pacific Sunset"
Location: Graywhale Cove, San Mateo County, California.

California coastline is one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world and what better time to hit the coast other than at sunsets. I have been on this beach several times but it is always a unique experience to photograph it. That is because the sand is constantly changing, sometimes exposing and sometimes covering these rocks. On this particular day everything came together well. I was lucky to get the water motion that spread out from the center and resembled the clouds in the sky. The light was very good and created warm tones that I love to capture. It was a very rewarding experience and hope you enjoyed this image too.

Saurabh Deoras > "Pier View"
Location: Pier 7 at Embarcadero, San Francisco, California.

Seafront area on Embarcadero has fine seafood restaurants, local bookshops, bakeries and coffee shops. Many of these places have fantastic ocean views and the ambiance is very lively. During summer months it is a perfect escape from the heat of the bay area since city is foggy and cool most of the days. A walk on pier 7 offers fantastic views of the ocean but what I like even more is the view looking towards the city.

Saurabh Deoras > "Fog View"
Location: Mt. Tamalpais, Mill Valley, California.

Golden grass on undulating hills is a characteristic California landscape. Up here it is dry but at lower elevation fog is abundant and brings in enough moisture so giant redwoods can grow. There has been extensive logging in this area which took away acres of redwood forests but many still survive such as Muir woods seen in this image.

Saurabh Deoras > "Heaven's Trail"
Location: Mt. Tamalpais, Mill Valley, California.

Among the places that can make you feel being on the edge of the earth, Mt. Tamalpais certainly ranks high in its ability to do so. A visit to this area during summer months is guaranteed to give you a view that is out of this world. The undulating hills rise above the fog which rolls into the San Francisco bay from the Pacific ocean. And what could be a better way to explore such landscape than to hike on the trail carefully managing steep slopes on all sides. I saw fog here several times but I never saw the moonrise. This day was truly special.

ISO 1600 is very unusual for me. I usually shoot at ISO 50 or ISO 100, however, in this case the scene was near dark and without high ISO sensitivity it would be impossible to get correct exposure.
Saurabh Deoras > "Hill View"
Location: Mt. Tamalpais, Mill Valley, California.

One of the most spectacular displays of nature in the San Francisco bay area is the fog rolling into the bay, and viewing it from the top of Mt. Tamalpais is like going to another world above the clouds. Also seen in the image are lichen covered rock and the golden grass that are so characteristic of the California landscape.

Saurabh Deoras > "Mesquite Sand Dunes"
Location: Death Valley National Park, California.

I always wanted to photograph the lines and patterns that form in sand dunes. So when I visited Death Valley I liked this spot from where sharp edges were looking well with the smooth undulations of the dunes and leading quite nicely to the mountains behind.

Saurabh Deoras > "Sunset Light on Golden Gate"
Location: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, San Francisco, California.

It was a beautiful day in the bay and yet there was no one on the bridge!... Well, the truth is that I was witnessing one of the best lighting conditions and wanted to make the best of it photographically. Using long exposure time for this image I blurred all the cars on the bridge making it look empty. Hope you enjoy this view.
